Design Brief: This project studies the deployment of thin shelled structures that use the arch at both the macro and micro scale to achieve stiffness and spanning capacity. After the "ribbed" form was digitally modeled. 3-Axis routers were used to "surface" route the formwork out of expanded polystyrene foam blocks. The blocks were then assembly on a centering of plywood and the fiberglass strips were laid up over the formwork as a single sided mold. After the fiberglass hardened, the strips were demolded and transported to the site where they were attached to the building using custom fabricated stainless steel clips.
